Goals For 2017

With the start of University, exams and life in general, I have been too busy (and ill!) to share with you my goals for 2017, but here I am today and very excited to be taking to you! I am not big on resolutions but I am definitely a fan of sitting down and reflecting on what we want to accomplish and do…even if they seem small or perhaps silly. I divided my goals and things I want to achieve into categories. ➭ Health – To be raw vegan for 3 days. Include more raw meals in my diet. Start taking Omega 3. Take better care of my skin. ➭ Travel – Go to France and Germany (at least!) ➭Hobbies – To read more. Meditate regularly. Stop watching so much Netflix! ➭ Love – To cultivate self-love. To spend more time with myself for myself. To become better at expressing love. ➭ Food – Make (vegan) sushi at home. Make my own pad thai. Go to a Thai restaurant. ➭ For fun – Go to the vintage cinema in Nottingham. Go to a ice hockey …

Hardest Part Of Being Vegan

Being vegan is the best thing I have ever done. I actually dare to say that all vegans would agree with me on that. Being vegan is a joy! Food is so much better when you know it is cruelty free. It feels good to know that you are not paying to torture and kill a living being. In a society where being omnivore is the norm, being vegan is commonly seen as something out of the ordinary, hence why it can be hard for some people to become vegan. Often people don’t want to be out of the norm, to be seen differently or have to deal with ‘hassles’ such as change their typical breakfast or not go to a certain coffee shop they like. I get it. I haven’t always been vegan. For a long time, I was ignorant > Ignorant – lacking knowledge or awareness < I didn’t know what veganism was and how it would positively impact my life. I was also ignorant about my own values, I wasn’t aware that by eating animal products I …

What I Ate Today In Portugal {Vegan}

I am currently in Portugal visiting my family, friends and enjoying the sunshine. When I first came to Portugal being vegan it was quite hard for me to adapt my diet to the Portuguese “lifestyle”. Even though there is an abundance of delicious fresh fruit in Portugal, my family was not used to cooking vegan food which was very tricky in our daily family lunch and dinner. Nowadays it is a lot easier but I do understand when people say veganism can be hard in some situations, however, there is always a way to do it. Onto what I ate today… Breakfast This is a typical breakfast for me here in Portugal. I blended 2 frozen bananas, 2 handfuls of frozen berries – including raspberries, blueberries and blackberries – and a bit of soya milk. I love this breakfast! It is delicious, vibrant and it gives me loads of energy. However I most admit, not the most attractive picture but definitely try it. Coffee Break Coffee lovers you have to come to Portugal and have an espresso, it is heaven. I …

What I Ate Today {Vegan} #4 – My Birthday

As you can tell by the tittle of this post, today’s “What I Ate Today” is a special edition as I decide to share with you what I ate on my birthday! Breakfast This is my favourite time of the day. I love having breakfast and it is something I look forward to every day. I wanted to make sure I started my day with the best food possible and for me that is FRUIT, lots of fruit. I had one melon – I have been saving that melon for my birthday – and a delicious smoothie. The smoothie had: 2 bananas, 1 handful of raspberries, 1 handful of blackberries and some unsweetened almond milk. It was so delicious and it was the perfect way to start off my day! Brunch Brunches are perfect for those who love to have breakfast for lunch. As you can probably guess, I love going out for brunch. Having breakfast food twice in one day is such a treat for me hahah! I went out to lovely local cafe and …

How To Eat Out As A Vegan

I get constantly asked “can you go out to eat?”…and YES I can! My answer is always the same “Of course! I eat everything! I just don’t eat animal products”…it is not a big deal. Today I will be sharing with you my top tips for when you go out to eat. I would say it probably works anywhere you go. 1. Look out for Vegetarian options: most restaurants have vegetarian options, most times they can become vegan if you just ask to remove the sauce or eggs for example. From personal experience, sometimes it can be quite hard to find on the menu depending on where you go, but definitely keep an eye for the vegetarian options. 2. Stay Simple: there is no need to try and adventure in a long menu. Look out for simple dishes, usually at the top of the menus, they are also the cheapest (bonus). They have fewer ingredients and are less likely to have animal products. I find that pastas, salads and rice are the most common options. 3. …

What I Ate Today {Vegan} #3

Greetings! ✵ It has been a while since I have done a “what I eat in a day” post, and you know how much I love sharing and talking about food so I am really happy to be doing another one of these. Today was a school day for me, I started at 11.15 am and finished at 4.30 pm. Here is what I ate today: 8.50 am – Breakfast: As per usual, I had to have a bowl of porridge. This was just a simple porridge with banana and I topped it with more banana and some mixed seeds. I also had a cup of delicious Earl Grey tea. You can check out the porridge recipe here, the only difference is that I swapped the peanut butter for mixed seeds. Porridge and tea is literally my ideal breakfast, is like a perfect morning treat. 9.40 am – Vitamins: Time to take my vitamins, here I am taking two Flaxseed capsules which are really good sources of Omegas and one general vitamin, it’s an organic vitamin full …

What I Ate Today {Vegan} #1

People are constantly asking me what I eat. Most people think because I decided to have a vegan diet I can only eat salad. So I decided to make this post, this is what I eat in a regular school day. 9.00am – Breakfast: Banana and peanut butter porridge! One of my favourite breakfasts ever. I have a blog post dedicated to this amazing recipe that you can check out here:  recipe. The only difference is that today I decided to add some seeds on top for extra crunch (poppy, pumpkin and sunflower seeds). I also had some Jasmine tea…my new obsession. 9.45am – Coffee Break: simple black coffee because I looove coffee, specially in the morning when I am relaxing. I don’t necessarily use it to wake me up as I don’t think caffeine does anything for me, I just love the taste of coffee. 1.20pm – Lunch: Today I had a tostie with spinach, kidney beans, sweet corn and onion, it was delicious! On the side I just had beans, spinach, sweet corn and …

Turkey Diary #3 | Last Day Nostalgia

29/10/15  “So today is the day. The day we say goodbye to the sunshine, the mountains, the fruit and the lovely tea. We also have to say goodbye to our neighbor whose warm heart received us since our first day here. It was an honor to share a cup of Çayi (tea) with her, it goes to show that language should never be an excuse to not communicate with other beautiful people. Her amazing smile, constant positive energy and google translate made our evening perfect and a moment I will always treasure. I just hope one day the sounds coming out of her mouth make sense in my head and we no longer have to use google translate…I know for a fact that would make her extremely happy. We are at the airport now in Antalya waiting for our flight to Istanbul. I got a flat white with soya milk, as usual…as soon as I get to England everything will be back to ‘the usual’. I will get the usual bus to school, go to the usual gym, worry …
