30 Mindful Days (guide to journaling)

Journaling is something I’ve always done. When I was young I got given a diary, my first entry was on the 8th of September 2004 and since then, I’ve never stopped writing. Throughout the years I have been through a lot of phases, sometimes I would write everyday, sometimes I would only write once a month, regardless, I have no doubt that journaling is a powerful tool for self-discovery and mindfulness. I’ve always been a person with many thoughts, I am a natural overthinker. Therefore, I loved having a free space where I could say anything I express my crazy mind. It is incredible to look back and see how much writing my feelings down helped me rationalize irrational thoughts. Many times I would pour down my soul, allow myself to feel everything, and somehow end up feeling grateful and motivated by the end of the page.Self-refection is not easy. Starting with a blank page is not easy, specially if you are scared of what you can find. But here are some prompts you can use everyday to reflect and practice …

Knowledge Is Power

“Rise Of The Wise” I just got the latest issue of the Asos magazine and oh boy it is a good one! “Knowledge is power” is the theme of their spring issue, marked by the “Rise of the Wise” motto. I felt so inspired from the moment I flipped the first page. You might be thinking…Asos magazine…sounds like a lot of adverts telling you to buy all their clothes and spend money. That’s what I first thought. But I was very surprised to find amazing content with beautiful ‘real people’ and inspiring stories. In the past few years I have really focused on having a holistic approach to knowledge. Knowledge about my body, mind, food, planet, people, etc. So today I want to share with you important things I’ve learned and how they empowered me and made me rise.1. Knowing my body: coming from a past of anxiety and depression, learning to listen to my body is a big one for me. This was something I really struggled with a few years ago as I used to put …

Steps To Happiness

We are all striving to be happy in life. I think happiness requires three things: mindfulness, compassion and gratitude. If we cultivate those three then whether the sky is blue or grey will not dictate how happy we are. Today I am sharing with you guys the things that helped me to be really happy and content with life. Mindfulness: practice being mindful throughout the day, regardless of what you are doing. Being mindful means being present and aware of what you are doing. Focusing on your present rather than getting lost in thoughts wanting something for the future or reminiscing on the past. Be aware of your thoughts: pay attention and recognise when you are thinking and what your thoughts are. This is a good way to identify certain thought patterns, worries, anxieties, negative thoughts, etc. Take time to breathe: breathing is such an automatic thing for us that we often put little to no thought into it. But actually focusing on your breath is one of the best ways to calm you down, make you grounded, focused and present in the …

What Is Freedom?

What is freedom? What is it like “to be free”? I’ve always loved to travel, to meet people, to be independent. I’ve always wanted to be free. To do my own thing, to live my life the way I wanted to. Nowadays being a “free spirit” is advocated in social media. It is seen as something to become or achieve. It is used as a compliment and something to admire in others. I used to think that being free meant to not be attached. To not be attached to anyone or anything. I thought freedom was being able to do what makes me happy without being apologetic. I thought freedom was to not be trapped by people or things. Now I am working on redefining my definition of freedom. I need to remind myself that freedom does not equal being alone. I can still be free when people love me. And I can love and be free. To be free is to not chase after the things that make you happy. To be free is to embrace all you have in front of you. To be …

Stillness

“Be aware of the gaps. To listen to the silence, wherever you are, is an easy way of becoming present. Even when there is noise, there is always some silence underneath and in between the sounds. Listening to the silence immediately creates stillness in you.” “As long as you are in conscious contact with you inner body, you are like a tree that is deeply rooted in the earth.” Things I have been reflecting and meditation on. Finding silence and stillness in this crazy rushed world where our minds are filled with thoughts, emotions, Netflix and social media. It is time to slow it all down and look within, only then we can find true joy, happiness and stillness. Lots of love babes, Ines x

Why You Should Be Vegan At Uni

A vegan at Uni. I had no clue what it would be like. After doing this for a few months now, I have to say, I couldn’t be happier to be vegan, even being a Uni student! Here is a list of reasons why you should be vegan at Uni: ✺ Cheap – I save so much money by being vegan! A weekly shop can be really cheap if I have a few basics at home. Potatoes, rice, pasta, oats, beans, veggies and fruit are really cheap foods which I can get all for under £1. Plus when I am shopping I never get tempted to buy cheap chocolate, biscuits, etc. as they are usually not vegan, even more savings there! ✺ Health – It is a lot easier to stay healthy and fit as a vegan. Even if you eat some Oreos one day or vegan chocolates, they don’t often have nearly as much fat as things containing animal products. If you keep most of your meals based on whole foods, you have nothing to worry about. …

Shaking

Last night I felt very overwhelmed. I had all sorts of feelings and didn’t know what to do or why I was feeling that way. I felt very restless and lost not knowing what to do to easy my mind. It is during times like these that I need to remind myself that I am human. My mind is not black and white. It is not a constant flow, it has ups and downs. Thinking and feeling are what makes me human and what a wonderful thing to be. I wrote this as I was embracing my present mind by writing my thoughts down. When I finished, there was no more resistance to my human mind and emotions. Everything there was in my mind was now out on paper. I was at peace with my feelings. I feel very intensively, it is time I embrace and accept it, instead of resisting it. If you need to feel, let yourself feel and then move on. Acknowledge it and let it go by accepting and honouring that human part of …

After The USA Election…

This is crazy. This world is a crazy place. It is scary. I find it scary that so many people encourage and support racism, sexism and homophobia. They support a man who is proud to be a misogynist, against all cultures and religions but his own. This is very scary! It makes me wonder if I have been living in a bubble. As a UK resident, and despite the EU referendum outcome, I feel safe. I feel like I live in a country where mentalities are changing. Love is winning over hatred. We have challenged the concepts of gender, sexuality, religion and boarders with empathy and acceptance. Yes, I know it is not all peace, love and not everyone has the same beliefs, but there seems to be great compassion and love. I am shocked! I am devastated. I am a believer of human kindness, compassion and empathy. It is almost like this election is proving me that I am wrong. But I can’t let that happen. I won’t let that happen and neither should you. You …

How To Love Your Body

There are not right or wrong bodies. There are not good or bad bodies. How we feel about yourselves is all down to our perception and our attitude about it. Here are a few things you can do to brighten up the way to see your body: ➯ Drink water – Keeping your body hydrated is such an important factor to feel good. Often when we feel fatigued or ‘down’ we are actually dehydrated, so make sure you drink plenty of fluids, mainly water. It will also help you detox and clean your organism. ➯ Exercise – Find some type of exercise you enjoy doing and do it. This could be something really simple such as walking, or perhaps yoga, running, cycling, etc. Doing exercise releases hormones that will make you feel happier, your metabolism will increase which will give you a boost of energy and you will feel accomplished and healthy. ➯Eat foods that make you happy – What I mean by this is: eat foods that will make you feel your best in the long-term. So instead of impulsively eating a bag …
