The warming sun touching my skin, the birds singing out loud and the long days are my favourite things about Spring. Spring brings change, a fresh start. It is a great time to pick up some new healthy habits to make you feel energized and vibrant for the months ahead.
Today I am sharing with you 3 simple things you can do to become a bit healthier this Spring without going on a crazy detox or workout regime. These will hopefully turn into habits you can enjoy and develop further.
1. Walk or Cycle As Much As You Can!
Take advantage of the good weather to walk or cycle to the shops, work or simply for leisure. It is great for the mind to go outside and get fresh air. And of course, it is an amazing way to get the body moving, and your skin will love the warm sunshine.
Back at home (Kent) I loved going on walks by the beach, I would walk for about 2 hours whilst listening to my favourite podcasts. It was so therapeutic and it always put me in a good mood. I appreciate not everyone has 2 hours to walk around, I definitely don’t at the moment, however, simply increasing your steps each day will make a huge difference in your activity levels. Don’t be embarrassed to ask your friends to go for walks! My flat mates and I sometimes go on walks around the woods and it is such a great way to be outdoors and hangout. Simply enjoy having a more active lifestyle, whatever that means for you.
2. Eat More Raw Foods
I am not telling you to go raw vegan or to make any major changes to your diet. What I suggest is to have one raw meal a day. I find breakfast to be the easiest as you can have really filling and energizing smoothies or raw overnight oats. If you really can’t have one raw meal a day then I suggest making your snacks raw. Opt for fresh fruit, veggies (carrots are my fave atm) or nuts for your morning or afternoon snack.
Raw foods are a great way to stay hydrated, they are also refreshing and are packed full of vitamins and minerals. They will make you feel energized and your skin will shine! I’ve been doing this since the beginning of the year, playing with raw vegan meals and having raw days, and I absolutely love it! Easy raw recipes will be up on the blog very soon.
3. Take Time To Breath
Take some deep breaths. This seems so simple, almost silly to try to explain but simply take 1 minute to breath. Perhaps do this in the morning before leaving the house, mid-day and then in the afternoon or even in bed.
Nowadays we are rushing the entire day from one task to the other. Making a conscious decision to stop what you are doing and take some deep breaths can be exactly what you need to release some stress, anxiety or simply to make you feel lighter and more energized. You might forget at first to have these little breaks so maybe it is a good idea to set reminders on your phone. 3/4 times a day, it won’t take a long time but I promise it feels oh so good!
These are my top 3 ways to become healthier this Spring. They target your body/exercise, nutrition and mind. In my opinion health is a holistic concept that we approach as a lifestyle. Would love to know if you have any suggestions! Leave them in the comments. Thank you so much for reading. Lots of love,
