10 Reasons To Meditate

Meditation has been seen as a taboo for a long time, however I like to believe that nowadays people are more aware of the importance of taking care of their mind.

Yes, meditation can seem like a daunting task. The thought of sitting in one place in silent for a few minutes might seem really boring for some. Others might be scared of listening to the voices in their head and emptying their mind.

Regardless of what you think about meditation, here are 10 reasons why I think you should incorporate at least 10 minutes of meditation regularly in your life:


❃ Reduces Stress: nowadays, with so much going on in our lives, is very easy to get caught up in a million thoughts. Meditation will help you silence the thoughts and worries in your mind by making you live in the present moment, this will reduce worrying about the future, work, school,  relationships, money…

Gives you Time: meditation gives you time to focus on yourself, on just being. Taking time to simply do nothing and focusing on taking care of your mind and spirit is one of the most important things to do. We are usually so overwhelmed with our daily lives we forget to take a few minutes to just be with ourselves.

❃ Better Knowledge of Yourself: I think it is very important to pause during the day for 10 minutes to simply just be with yourself. Most people go through their day without thinking how their are feeling, how does their body feel, what’s on their mind…their are so overwhelmed that the last thing they think about it’s themselves. Stopping for a bit and allowing yourself to understand how you are feeling today will gradually increase the way you look at yourself. You will start seeing how much influence you have on your mind, how much power you have over your body.

❃ Quiets the Voices: as mentioned above, meditation will help quiet then voices in your head. “I have to do this”, “I have to do that”, “I wonder hat will happen..”, “I have so much work to do”, “Let me check instagram”, “oh I need to update my profile”…all these thoughts and a million others can run in your mind in just a fraction of a second, without you even realising. This often can make people overwhelmed with their lives and it distract them from what they are feeling and what they actually want to be thinking about. Meditation helps bring your mind to the present and gives you the control to step out of those unconscious thoughts and not be affected by them.

❃ Brings Calm and Clarity: without all those thoughts cluttering your mind, you are calm. Your mind is still. You don’t have to worry about the future or the past. You are clear of what you want to be thinking about and what you want to do throughout your day without getting caught up in stress and other messy thoughts.

❃ Gratitude and Compassion: meditation will help you cultivate gratitude and compassion. Gratitude for the present moment and life. Compassion starts with yourself, being kind with yourself and then you can expand to other living beings.

❃ Helps Focusing: a lot of people struggle to focus on a task. by meditating regularly you will notice that focusing not tasks becomes easier as you have more control over your mind and thoughts. Your mind is not wandering around whilst you are trying to complete a task. As you can imagine, I found this very useful for me as a student, I get my work done much faster and effectively.

❃ Relaxation: meditation can be a great relaxation exercise to do before going to bed – you will get the best sleep! It calms you mind down and makes you more relaxed about life and the daily things that would normally make you stressed.

❃ Patience and Self-Control: I feel like we can all agree that patience is very important in life. Through meditation you will learn about your body and how it works beautifully, you will be able to manage your thoughts, your breathing..this will lead to self-control. Being patience and having self-control can reduce feelings of frustration, anxiety, stress, hatred and a million other negative emotions.

❃ Aware of the World: as you clear your mind from messy thoughts and clutter, you start living more in the present moment. You become more aware of the world around you and start seeing that in fact there is beauty in everything.


Try meditation for a couple of days, 10 minutes everyday and you will see the impact it has in your life. It might seem like a big commitment, but dedicating 10 minutes to yourself seems pretty reasonable to me.
